I want to share dual LG ultrawides with a PC and a laptop which has a Thunderbolt 3 hub (I'll refer to the laptop and hub as "T3" below).
The PC has a Gigabyte Windforce AMD R9 380 with 1xDisplayPort, 1xHDMI, 1xDVI-I, and 1xDVI-D outputs.
The T3 has 1xDisplayPort, 1xHDMI, and 1xVGA outputs.
One LG monitor has 1xDisplayPort and 1xHDMI (let's call this one M1). The other has 2xHDMI (call it M2).
I want to share both monitors with the PC and the T3. I don't mind switching the inputs on each monitor when I need to change between the PC and T3 so a KVM or monitor switch isn't necessary, though I'm not opposed to it if anyone can suggest one which will work in this setup and doesn't cost as much as a new video card with more outputs to solve this problem.
I need 2560x1080 resolution on both monitors from both PC and T3. Both do support 2560 x 1080 on both monitors if I connect either one's DisplayPort to M1 and the HDMI to M2.
That leaves the other device needing to connect to both M1 and M2 using HDMI for both connections (because M2 has no DP) on the monitor's end but the PC and T3 only has 1 HDMI output each. I need to convert DisplayPort, DVI-I, DVI-D from the PC or DisplayPort or VGA from the T3 to HDMI and still support 2560x1080.
I tried a DVI to HDMI converter on the PC's DVI outputs. It works, but of course maxes out at 1920 x 1080.
In other words, please help me fill in the question marks. Can I make this work and get 2560 x 1080 all around?
T3 DP >> M1 DP
T3 HDMI >> M2 HDMI
PC DP, DVI-I, or DVI-D >> ???? >> M1 HDMI
PC >> HDMI >> M2 HDMI
Or if converting VGA is better ( I doubt it, but listing here just in case I'm wrong)
