Question Sharing files between Win 7 and 10 over local network

Hello all,

Me and a friend are trying to share work files on a home network, I am doing some video editing for him. All the files are on his computer which is running Win 7, I am working from a laptop on Win 10. We activated Homegroup on his Win 7 and we activated the network discovery and sharing in Network & Internet for both computers. I can see his PC and he can see the laptop alright, but can't access. We get an error message saying to make sure the computer is on and connected to the network.

After a bit of research I found out that Homegroup use to exist on Win 10 but got taken off after update 1803, so the code that you get from Win 7 to get access it from other computers is basically useless since we can't have the option to even get to the part to use it. And the only way to have it working is if you had shared files through home group before it got taken off.

Does anyone know of a work around to this ?

what you can do is enable file sharing on a file on the windows 10 computer, then take the network location it provides and go to the windows 7 mahcine and add a network location, and type that network location that was given example ( \\computer\file) Screenshots / Screenshots2
