Sharing intranet between two routers.

Hello all!

I have two routers (a Netgear R6400, and a Netgear WNDR3400v3), which are connected to a modem given by my ISP. Unfortunately, it isn't possible for me to connect these two routers with an ethernet cable. The SSID and password are the same for both.

The problem for me is I have a Bose home theatre connected to one router, while my laptop is connected to another. The Bose home theatre requires you to be connected to the same network as your laptop to be able to make use of the SoundTouch facility. So, I need to "share" the intranet between these two routers.

My primary aim is to be able to connect these two routers, and be able to access any device connected to the first router from the second router and vice-versa, WITHOUT compromising on my internet speed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can't do that without VPN, and neither of your routers supports that.

You NEED to set one router to access point and the other to router mode and connect them with ethernet, either straight cable or something like a powerline network apparatus

I'm unclear on what your setup is. How are the two routers both connected to the same modem? And without an ethernet cable?

From what I understand about your post, I agree with basroil that you need to use powerline networking to bring the network to the second router. Use AV2-1200 or AV2-2000 rated adapters for the best performance.

Yes. Both my routers are connected to an ISP modem via ethernet. You can find the network structure here.

Do neither of my routers support repeater mode? Is AP not a solution?

I see the problem. The "modem" is more than a modem, it is a gateway. (modem, router and wifi together) By connecting the LAN ports on the gateway to the WAN ports of the subsidiary routers, you are doing double NAT. That is why they won't talk to each other.

You need to set the subsidiary routers as APs with the eithernet connected to the lan ports. You will then have one unified network.

So, If I set both my routers as AP, it should work? Also, what IP address should the AP's be?
