I've got a little home LAN with two computers. I want to be able to share
ALL files and folders on computer #1 with computer #2. But Win XP prevents
me from sharing the \windows folder, the \program files folder and some of
the \documents and settings folder ... it's just a fundamental safety
precaution built into the XP system. Does anyone know a way to circumvent
that rule? I would like to share ALL files and folders.

Thanks in advance........

Hi Bill,

See if disabling Simple File sharing helps. An excerpt from the Help and Support Center:

Topic: To share a drive or folder on the network
ms-its:C:\WINDOWS\Help\filefold.chm::/windows_share_your_folders.htm

"The Sharing option is not available for the Documents and Settings, Program Files, and WINDOWS system folders. In addition, you cannot share folders in other user's profiles."

Thanks for the quick reply, Ramesh. Sadly, although I found your suggestion
illuminating, it didn't solve the problem; in fact, it had the opposite
effect ... with Simple File Sharing disabled, NONE of the files and folders
on the #1 computer were visible from the #2 computer. Re-enabling Simple
File Sharing brought the sharing level back to where it was, but this didn't
circumvent the rule you cited: "The Sharing option is not available for the
Documents and Settings, Program Files, and WINDOWS system folders. In
addition, you cannot share folders in other user's profiles."

So ... back to square one. Any other thoughts?

Thanks again.......
