Yes, it is possible to polish your CH Yoke shaft. I've been talking about
it, but had never done it. Mine is 3 years old and was beginning to stick
despite all the lubricant it could hold.
If you are good at this sort of stuff feel free to do it, it's not that
hard... if you are a mechanical klutz don't try it. It's a good idea to
shoot a couple of digital camera shots of the yoke with the bottom cover off
before you disassemble the whole thing.
Use 600 grit then 1000 grit sandpaper (you can find these in auto parts
stores in the paint department). Then I buffed it to a shine with polishing
compound. I also gave the same treatment to the 2 bushings that you can
access when it's apart.
