Would like to get new RGB ram, but my motherboard officially supports 2133mhz and all of the new ones are +2666. So, what will happen when I install let's say 3000mhz ram? Will they work at lower clock or they won't work at all?

My cpu is i7 6700k and mb Gigabyte z170x gaming 7.

With XMP it will easily support ram faster than 2133.
"Support for DDR4 3866(O.C)/3733(O.C)/3666(O.C) /3600(O.C.) /3466(O.C.) /3400(O.C.) /3333(O.C.) /3300(O.C.) /3200(O.C.) /3000(O.C.) /2800(O.C.) /2666(O.C.) /2400(O.C.) /2133 MHz memory modules"

Now if you install DDR4 3000 when you first boot it will run at 2133 then you just need to enter bios and load the XMP profile to get the advertised speed.
