shite 2d performance

Hi, i was wondering if someone could help me with my poor 2d performance in games like plane scape torment and warlords battlecry. I'm running a 800 duron tnt2u and 128mb and they jerk real bad sometimes especially torment. Anyone got any ideas why?
Has it got anythink to with my virtual swap file? If it is what is the best setting?

Which OS? I run WinME, and was using an old ISA SB16. The audio would slow everything down when accessed. I upgraded to a PCI card, and it made a huge difference.

i'm running win98 se and i'm using a sb live value card the the latest liveware drivers

That game is a massive memory hog it might be running out on some boards(areas), try setting a permi swap file to like 300min/300max meg
windows pauses to reset/change the swapfile

also turn off stuff running in background and turn off sound (to test the memory as sound uses quite a bit )
then turn sound back on after you see if it affects performance
alternatively add 128 meg memory its only like 50$ us

I has nothing to do with his graphics card, i had same problem adding memory fixed it, that game hogs up tons of memory
