the other day i was dusting my computer out and i accidentally touched my gpu and it shocked me i was deadly afraid of a shortage in my gpu so i booted my computer up and and went to test everything and they all worked fine. How bad is this for my gpu/computer will it ever affected the performance of my gpu in the future, if so what will happen?

Solution
if it was just a small zap, you shouldn't be worried about it. run some more games and some cpu stress tests for some time, and verify that everything is working perfectly, like the way it was before

Actually I would say unplugging would be a bad idea. By being connected the whole system would be grounded/earthed and any static discharge is more likely to disperse safely.

The question is, was it static build up from the cleaning in which case its one of those things but if it was an electric shock of some kind I would suspect a faulty PSU which should be changed immediately.

the system would be grounded only if the psu is connected and turned OFF. this is a safe way to get removed of static electricity when handling components if you don't have an anti-static strap.

ok, what can happen because of this. I turned it on and ran stress tests on components and nothing seemed to be wrong. Will this effect the performance of my gpu/pc in the future or should i not worry about it?

The system is grounded in both ON & OFF position for your safety.

If it was static it came from the human and not the PC, the task of cleaning probably caused the build up, maybe because of the cloth if one was used. Leaving a PSU plugged in will only keep some capacitors charged but that is completely safe as long as you do not dismantle the PSU (never take a psu apart unless you know what you are doing, even unplugged the capacitors can still hold a lethal charge)
