My current CRT is showing signs of dying. The thing is 6 years old so thats not unexpected.

Its an iiyama Pro 510 22" flatscreen. I paid $1,000 for it brand new. and I'll gladly pay that much for good LCD of simmilar size. And being that tax season and bonus is comming up that figure can be raised if needed.

it HAS to play games well: FPS, MMO, RTS, etc... As I play a lot. Also must play movies.

Suggestions? Questions? opinions?

Thanks

I read the article very carefully.
and statements like:
the 2405FPW is a good choice, but its performance falls short for playing movies and for gaming.
send me searching for a different monitor. Movies and gaming are 90% of what I use my PC for.

I can give you my opinion once mine shows up here in the next week or so, but I went with it based on the info I got here as well as scouring the net about LCDs. The other monitor I was seriously looking at was the Acer AL2416Wd. It looks to be a little better for gaming, but in the end I went with the Dell because of the ergonomics and the built-in card reader. I am an extremely avid gamer, but this computer will be used for a lot of the other "mundane" stuff, which just happens to include a lot of digital camera picture uploading.

I have had no issues with my 2405. Ghosting, lag, etc appears to be non-existant. Although I did see some video anomalies when I first hooked it up using the supplied DVI cable. But when I upgraded to a true Dual-DVI cable it became crystal clear and smooth.

Good to hear. I'll definately look into the dual DVI cable option. Although its going to play major havoc with my KVM switch (i'll deal with that elsewhere).

RichPLS - by "upper mid-grade card" -- im assuming a 6800GT will work nicely, thats what im running now.
