Question Should an MSI Geforce GTX 1050 TI work on an HP-1200z witn an m3970am motherboard?

I have an hp-1200z with an m3970am-hp motherboard. I installed an MSI Geforce 1050 TI and it beeped. Put the old graphics card in and everything worked fine. I had a 300W PSU, so I installed a 550W PSU. PC still doesn’t boot, just beeps. Can’t find any motherboard bios updates. The few articles related to this motherboard that I have found suggest that it should work. Anyone have any ideas?

Make and model of the PSU with 550W advertised on it's side? You sure you got the model for your HP prebuilt correct? I looked on Google and I see a laser printer. By any chance are you working with this prebuilt?

This is prebuilt. Bought in late 2012 or early 2013. Has 6 processors.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding "prebuilt". I purchased this pc from hp.com and it arrived assembled.

Those OEM prebuilts can be finicky with GPU upgrades, even when a normal DIY rig, of similar specs would. It probably is a bios limitation, and I cannot find a bios for it. You could maybe try a cmos reset, by unplugging the system, make sure the power has been drained out of it, then removing the battery for a min.
