[SOLVED] Should/Can I upgrade my old PC or better sell it and start a new build? Goal - run modern games reasonably well.

Hi all,
my specs:

GPU: Sapphire HD 7950 (the one with the 2 fans)
CPU: 3.33 gigahertz AMD FX -6100 Six-Core
MB: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
PS: XFX TS 650W
RAM: Corsair 2 x 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz
Cooling: CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO
Case: Zalman Z11 Neo

Budget: 500 EUR (I guess that's 500$) (I live in Germany).

Can I just upgrade the GPU and CPU or this wouldn't be optimal? If yes - what would be my options for an upgrade? Is buying second-hand GPU or CPU unwise?
Also, I have 4 ram slots (2 of them used). Can I just add more ram to the current ones or it would be necessary to upgrade/replace them as my current ram is outdated?

Any tips are appreciated!
