Hi
I have a WD Green SSD and a Samsung HDD. My friends told me to active AHCI mode in BIOS. Should I do it ? Right now my Write speed is between 150-250 MB and Read 450-500 MB. WD says write speed for this model is 400. Can AHCI improve SSD write speed ?

Hi Artaherzadeh :) Not by much, It will improve if you use your SSD as your OS drive.

From a practical point of view, It's better to use AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) if your hardware supports it. If you do use AHCI, all Serial ATA features are available and it's backward compatible.

If you installed Windows 10 with the disk controller set into the IDE mode in BIOS, you cannot switch it to AHCI directly and hope that Windows will work correctly. Once you change it in the BIOS, Windows 10 will become unbootable.

Windows needs to know you're making the switch if going from IDE to AHCI mode!

A simple fix using REGEDIT.

Start REGEDIT and look for this line :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci\StartOverride
Change the 0 DWORD value from 3 to 0.

Shut down, go back to your BIOS and switch it to AHCI.
It will now boot in AHCI mode!
