Should I build a new PC now or wait?

So I wanna build a new rig because mine is old as the hills now and cant give me what I want from my games anymore. This has been happening for a good 2 months but I've held out oh so patiently for AMD and the ryzen 7 cpus which through quite alot of research unfortunately isnt quite what I need for what I do. I wanted a rig that can make the most of the new 1440p 144hz monitor I plan on getting to go with it so basically something that allows for 90+ fps on ultra with maybe one or two settings toned down. The CPU that can handle that the best is a 7700k even when up against the 1800X which is better overall. I WILL be waiting for the new 1080ti to drop and im seriously considering getting it with the build because its 35% better than a 1080 for "£700" which should allow me to play most new release titles for a good couple years I was tempted to wait for AMD's vega aswell to see how nvidia responds (I'm set on nvidias cards because AMD freesnyc isnt quite good enough so even if vega was better + cheaper than the ti i wouldnt get it because of the monitor).
What I'm mostly asking is should I sit tight to see how AMD's ryzen 5 CPU's do and or intels response or should I get a 7700k now and be done with it OR should I get a 1700x and hope that optimization for 8 cores to a point that outperforms the 7700k in gaming. The budget is under £2k inc the radiators/ram/cooling/m.2 ssd(for windows mainly) etc
TLDR - the last paragraph

Hi there, Ryzen is out, it´s not the best CPU for gaming as expected but it´s a good begin. I guess Intel will be forced to drop the prices down. A good i5 7700k overclocked to 4.7 Ghz would be more than enough just for gaming. and with the extra Cash you could invest in better Graphics GTX 10xxx. it all comes down to your budget. if you can afford an i7 770k and >GTX10xx. than why not, but buying a better CPU and downgrading the GPU it´s not a wise choice.

Edit. I think the time to buy would be now, you will reach a point where you will keep waiting for better and better without end. Amd updated their processors thats good, the next months I expect intel to drop a bit the prices. you could wait for the 1080ti but waiting for a new CPU isn´t worth. there will be anyway the next day a more powerfull pretier CPU/GPU

I'd wait if you can. Not only will price to performance fluctuate, AM4 boards will have better bios revisions in a couple months. As a result, Ryzen's might increase in performance. I'd wait for vega also for similar reasons. Now really is a bad time to purchase a computer, with all of this hardware coming out.

The best time to buy a PC is when you have the money, and you need(or want) one. Yes you could wait and perhaps get something better for the same price, but you'd be missing out on the production of whatever you do today, tomorrow.... however long until you decided it was time to buy.

No matter when you buy, there will always be something coming out just around the corner, and if you wait for one thing, why not wait for the second, third or fourth thing. You'd always be waiting. Just buy when you need it, and get the best value for your money, and don't worry about what comes out next month.

and for the M.2 SSDs, I got one and after almost a full year of Usage my opinion is.. Mixed. The first BIG problem is HEAT, Im currently at my 2 Samsung 950 pro the first one died after 4 5 Months due to being extremelly Hot, The second one came, i literraly glued some Passive heaters and since then i didnt got a single problem. Now if I could go back and choose between a slower but bigger SSD or an Ultra fast small ssd that overheats and keep thermal Throtling and its not that reliable... Well I would take the Bigger Samsung 850 evo with 1TB. I noticed that on today days 250 GB isn´t enough for a gaming machine. In the end I had to buy a 2Tb internal HD and install my games there, making totally useless to have a 1000m/bs hardrive, and there isnt really optmised apps that really uses that 1k mb/s read write disk, speacially games, a simple SSD would be a much better choice I would say.

On the cooling side I would recommend sticking to Noctua the Noctua NH-D15 is simply the Best, talk what you want there is proove that it cost under 100pounds its the coolest quietest, beating those trash AIO Water cooled Corsair coolers

That's a good point.

I totally agree with this. For your average gamer, take the money you are going to spend on a m.2 and just purchase a higher capacity sata III ssd. Unless you are constantly transferring large files, or some sort of media creation, you aren't going to reap the benefits of m.2 speeds. If all you are doing is gaming anyways, your essentially just reading files, with the occasional write when you install the games. Games are starting totake up 100gb now. Who knows what you'll need in the future. Invest in the highest capacity Sata III ssd you can afford. It will be money well spent.

Thanks for the replies guys, I might wait til the middle of the month to see if any further news comes to light but if not I'm gonna take the plunge.

the 1080 Ti is out and as expected is a beast, around 25% more than the 80, now I would say wait for the third parties 1080 Ti and go for a third party card Like MSI, or Gainwar/Palit by there the Prices from intel should be aswell lower
