[SOLVED] Should I buy a 5ghz router?

I currently have a linksys e1200 router and it only works on a 2.4 ghz frequency I was thinking of getting a 5ghz router but my pc is on the second floor i use wifi and my router is on the first floor so i don't know if it would work out well or should i just buy a really long ethernet cable?

The best option will always be a ethernet cable if you can somehow get it run. Be careful to not buy fake cable. No CCA or flat cable only pure copper wire with size 22-24. You only need cat5e to get gigabit speeds.

There is no way to predict how well 5g will work it is too dependent on how your house is built and how many neighbors you have nearby transmitting interfering signals. The key advantage to 5g is there is more radio bandwidth so you get more total speed but 5g is also absorbed by things like walls and floors more so it is a trade off.

If you don’t want to run an Ethernet cable you can try powerline adapters that converts your house wiring into a network. I’ve had really good success with them and far better than WiFi. However I know the success of powerline adapters is completely dependent on your house wiring.

5GHz is less crowded than 2.4Ghz, but the downside is it has a shorter range. Still, it's nice to have a wifi router that supports both so you can experiment.

Nevertheless, you should always use ethernet wherever possible.

If a cable will be feasible, that's by far the best. Second, I would recommend moca adapters if you have cable jacks accessible in both areas, and third I would recommend trying powerline adapters as they can be better than wireless, but will not come close to a cable or moca in terms of speed.
