Should i buy a dedicated phys x card for my GTX 680??

hi guys i have a cpu i7 920 OC 3.8, with a GTX 680 and lately in games like borderlands 2 and battlefield 3 i get insane FPS drops at maximum settings.

i play all my games on max settings and i get anywhere from 100 fps down to about 25 in certain games at certain times, i have checked all over the place on whether or not i could be bottle necking my gpu with my cpu but after runing rivaturner on during games nothing seems to really be pointing to cpu bottleneck

and physx in borderlands 2 seems to be sucking up allot of the gpu in key moments causing the gpu load to drop along with the fps

so my question is should i get a dedicated cheap phys x card? to help the gtx 680 deal with games at max settings or is it really that the i7 920 is just an old cpu and even if its overclocked its time to move on so that i may experience the real power of the gtx 680

oh i forgot to mention i have a 850 wat powersupply and i am concerned about heat issues during all games the gtx 680 runs at about 70 c so im looking for something cheap and low in heat if thats at all possible for aiding in my gtx 680 performance

I never sort of understand why people ask this question. I mean sure its nice to run a game with all its eye candy in your face. I mean a simple resolution drop or turning a few graphics features off don`t hurt the game play.
You do know you have an option in the Nvidia card app to change if the card does the physics, or your CPU don`t you? Maybe give it a try.

i have played on both 720p and 1080p i like 1080p better its much clearer on my tv and sharper.

as of now the option in nvidia for physx to run on the gtx 680 has been on for awhile, the issue of fps drops is very dramatic still on borderlands 2 which is the only game i have that uses it.

everyone recomends me using this setting on because phys x on the cpu causes more fps drops plus lag than what i am currently experiencing. the point for a cheaper phys x card is to lighten the load on my gtx 680 so i can see its true potential and not suffer anymore from fps drops that can be so severe they lag the crap out of my pc.

as far as eye candy is concerned yes..yes i love graphics its the reason why i dont play on my ps3 or xbox

I am assuming yes that's what he means and as far as your psu if it's a reliable 850W it will be fine your cpu is fine no worries

well bigcyco1 you earned best answer before i select you though i got a couple more questions.

when i install it im not gonna install it as sli right? itll be installed but just separate right?

and for games that dont have physx will it carry some of the burden as far as performance goes? like will it aid my gtx 680 in all games including ones without phys x?

In your control panel, you'll see a PhysX options. In there you can chose which GPU to be used for PhysX.
