Motherboard- Asus b350 plus
CPU - Ryzen 5 2600
Monitor - Asus VG248qe 144hz 1080p

Of course the 1080 would guarantee that I wouldn't have to upgrade for a long time but it is up there in price. Then the 1070 is great but will it still be good for another 3 or 4 years?

If history repeats itself...

I'm still pushing a gtx970 and i7-3770K. Don't have any issues with any of the games I play. And that's going to be the criteria. If you absolutely must have the latest and greatest games, played at maximum ability, with maximum graphics and over the top maximum fps then in 5years your pc will be obsolete. It'll be obsolete tomorrow.
But if you are happy just playing, and don't demand unrealistic expectations, 5 years will be a drop in the bucket.

Split the difference, gtx1070ti. Almost as good performance as a 1080, almost as good a price as the 1070.

I've had my gtx970 for 4+ years now, and it's still a viable card for 1080p gaming. Unless you plan on pushing limits with 1440p/60Hz or 1080p/144Hz, a 1070+ will most likely last longer than the pc you have.

^ will you though really ?

When the 1070 released it was at the 980 price point
The 1060 was at the 970 price point.

Nvidia may stick to their naming conventions but in reality the new cards have always increased pricewise to close to the next tier up of the cards they're intended to replace.

What you say does ring true, new cards have always increased the prices. and if I do get a 1070 or 1070ti what would be my next upgrade path after that? mobo or cpu?

I'll just wait i suppose since i have a gtx 1060 6gb. Should be enough to last me for awhile anyway, just wanted to ask since i saw some sales on the 1080s and 1070s.
