Hello all,

So there has been a discount on GTX 780 Ti and it has been cut from it's original price of $750 to $430...that's crazy $320 in savings! I'm debating whether to get it or should I just go with the GTX 970. It's priced at about $370. I heard it's not that great atm but once the updates start coming, the performance will increase.

The 970 is a solid graphics card, using less power and giving 1GB more VRAM and obviously is newer tech (Maxwell) and $330 http://www.ncixus.com/products/?usaffiliateid=1000031504&sku=101997&vpn=04G-P4-0972-KR&manufacture=eVGA

There's little difference in the 970 / 980 / 780 TI currently.

The 970(stock setting) won't outperform the 780 Ti, but the 980 will. However the GTX 970 is an overclocking beast. If you get a card like the Gigabyte windforce or MSI gaming and do some overclocking it would probably match if not exceed the 780 ti.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm just debating whether I should take up on that offer. I'm getting a $750 card for basically $400. That's a crazy good deal. Or maybe it's not worth it? Will the 780 ti prices have a steep drop because of the 900 series?

That GTX 780 Ti also comes with a free copy of Borderland the Pre-Sequel. It's hard to go wrong with all the choices at hand. In terms of performance out of the box, that 780 Ti is an all-custom factory overclocked model, so very comparable, if not faster, than a stock GTX 980. Tough calls all around.

I guess I would stick with my mantra: Price-performance is a good thing, but there's a lot more to buying a video card. You have to look at the total package and decide if the extra features of one card outweigh the price-performance of the other card. In this case, the GTX 970/980s have a few extra features and a nice level of power efficiency to push them out in front. After all, that's why the GTX 780 Ti is so cheap in the first place. Just don't get a reference model. I'd take that Zotac AMP! over a reference GTX 980 in a heartbeat.
