Well I’m getting an Rtx 2080 super and I have a Ryzen 5 2600 x I only have a Gigabyte a320m motherboard and Inwa s going to get an ASUS rog b450 so I can overclock I don’t really want to get rid of my 2600 x as I only just got it about a month ago I upgraded from fx 8300

A b450 will certainly be a upgrade over a
A320 in feature wise and overclock ability.

If you do upgrade the 2600x will be totally fine on a b450.

As far as overclocking the 2600x which is what I have on a asus rog strix x470 f gaming you will Not be able to get the overclocks speeds like that of the Fx cpus if that is what you are thinking.
I settled on 4.1ghz oc as that is what seems to be safe and stable at 1.35625v.
Yes I could probably get alittle more but would have to push way more voltage to get it there and don't want the overvolt it to it's death just for 100mhz more.

The 1 main reason people say the 2600x isn't worth it is the price per performance of the 2600 that can be oc'd to near 2600x performance. cheaper.

The 2600x you already have is fine, till you decide when to upgrade it.
The recent bios updates and Agesa 1004 may have helped the 2000 series cpu's as the first few bios updates for the 3000's really didn't help the 2000's.
I lost performance going from a 2000 series bios to a bios that was more for a 3000 series and that was when I decided to Oc and have not updated since until i hear in fact it has helped or I get my 3600x or 3700x first
and at this time the price for a 3700x here at Micro Center is 249.99 us that is down $70.00 in the last week and 1/2.

As Drea.drechsler stated Don't let your expectations disappoint you as you Will Not Get the old Fx ghz oc's
out of Any of the AM4's unless you plan on some extreme LN2 cooling and at that time should be looking at a x470.
Keep in mind the am4's are doing more on less ghz (compaied to the FX) paired with some 3200mhz cl14 / cl16 ram in a 2x4, 2x8, or 2x16 config
So don't expect 4.2ghz or higher.

If you are 1 of those that needs max eveything right out the box then a 3000 may be better for the 2080 but if you get a 3000 series cpu the mobo may need a bios update before you can run it on that mobo.

There have been cases here that the mobo box had all indications that it was 3000 Compliant but was not.
Another mobo to look at would be a Msi tomahawk Max which are suppose to run a 3000 out the box but you may have to look at your ram if you already have it.

So alot depends on your wallet and any real brand preference you have.

If you want a little now and some later then the 2600x and the asus with a bios update later before getting a 3000 can also be done.

I wouldn't upgrade to a B450 motherboard when B550 is coming soon and will have better compatibility with Ryzen 4000 if you decide to upgrade the CPU in 2020 when Ryzen 4000 is very likely to be released. I wouldn't normally recommend sticking with an a320 board otherwise.

How soon is soon ? And with all new products bugs have to be worked out.
And if it has the Pcie 4.0 there are No Graphics card on the market today to take full advantage of it and yes that includes the 2080 ti's.
Personally I will stay with a x470 or a B450 un til the mobo manufacturers get there Head out of you know where with their pricing.

Well, I've seen speculation that the B550 board will be out by the end of this year or early 2020. Either way, the OPs A320 is enough for now unless they have a need right now for the extra features of a B450 motherboard. The B550 will have those features as well as more PCIE lanes, whatever that might mean for expansion. B550 will not have PCIE4.0, you still need an X570 for that, but probably less than 5% of users actually need it.

Not entirely true as we will get the PCIe gen 4 lanes from the CPU with B550. That means at least one PCIe x4, gen 4, NVME and one PCIe x16 slot will be gen 4. Only the chipset lanes will be gen 3. At least as far as what I've been able to tell.

We could technically get the PCIe gen 4 lanes from the (Ryzen 3000) CPU even with B450 and X470, it's just AMD has disabled it in AGESA code.
