Should I buy a new rig or upgrade my current? (4K gaming)

Hello there, how is everyone doing?

I'm currently in the midst of pondering the new stage of my pc journey and there are a few options open to me which I'm considering and would appreciate opinion and insight!

At the moment this is my build:

AMD APU A10 6800K Black Edition 4.4GHz
Gigabyte GA-F2A85XN-WIFI
Kingston Hyper X 16GB 2400MHz DDR3
MSI GTX 760 2GB GDDR5

which is housed inside a BitFenix ​​Prodigy Mini-ITX case.

Now this has been a relatively good performing kit, and I can play the majority of games fine however i'm beginning to find new releases - Witcher, Dragon Age ect to struggle, with consistent fps drops to 15-20.

With FallOut 4 in the horizon, and the advent of 4K gaming - it seems like the perfect opportunity to do some upgrading. The question is, what precisely.

I've got roughly 800-1000 available to spend and there are a few options in mind.

A, maintain the board & cpu and upgrade the gpu - buy a 980 Ti

B, new board - go for a 1150 mobo with a 4970K and a 970

or C, go for a 2011-v3 mobo with a 5820k and a 970

Each have different price points of course, however with where I'm 'umming and ahing' is whether it's worth going for a 1150 socket or potentially future proofing my mobo with a 2011-v3 socket...

That being said, do I NEED to upgrade my whole rig for better game performance?

you are not going to game at 4k on an APU no matter what gpu you put in it, sorry but you need a whole new build imo.

In my opinion if you really want to game at 4k, DON'T. I would just keep saving your money and buy a nice build, with a nice 2k monitor at 144hz. Until 4k monitors come out with 144hz, I would not go with 4k. Plus unless you got some serious cash, your going to go broke buying hardware to play at 4k with "ok" frame rates.

If anything if your monitor supports 144hz at 1080p, get a msi gaming 5, intel xeon e3 1231` v3 processor, and an evga 980 acx.20. You can overclock the card yourself. And you will do absolutely great with these upgrades for the next 3 years.

Yeah if you're after 60FPS on ultra settings at 4k you'd need more than $1000 just for the graphics cards.

If you can get a hefty overclock out of that CPU it should be fine for gaming at the minute and save you a lot of money. I'd perhaps just get a high end CPU cooler, a nice graphics card and maybe a 144Hz and/or 1440P monitor.
