My last video card was a MSI gt 440 refurbished, the fan failed after three years but I still have it and it still works having a CPU fan strapped to it.

I have purchased several refurbished systems from there for clients. the only issue I had was having to re-install windows on one of the systems, but the hardware was tip top.

I would probably advise against it. Considering motherboards are potentially one of the cheapest components of a build and are also usually the second thing to fail (after HDD's), it's best to buy a brand new one.
