Considering that my PNY GTX 970 4gb is almost 4 years old and I will be sticking to a 1080p resolution should I get a RX 580 8gb or 590? Or any other option, whatever is more future proof.

My rig
CPU: RYZEN 7 2700X
RAM: HYPERX 16 GB 2400MHZ
MB: ASUS A320M-K
PSU: CORSAIR CX 600W

Solution
From a 970, I wouldn't get either.

A 590 is an OC'd 580, which was an OC'd 480. They're not the best value, and trade blows with a GTX 1060.... As does a 970.
You're really looking at a sidegrade, bettering performance in some instances, a little lower in others.

Not worth it IMO but, if you're dead set on it, the 590 is a slightly better performer.

An RX590 is an OC'd RX580, but because it's 12nm, it doesn't draw any more power than the RX580 (which is an OC'd RX480)

The RX590 can be found for $225 USD which is in line with the GTX1060 6GB it beats. However, with RX580s going for as low as $165, that extra 12% performance for 35% more cost seems like a raw deal.

Unfortunately, the GTX1660Ti launching Feb 15 doesn't sound like it will upset the standing price/ perf curve in any way. The Radeon VII is too expensive to manufacture to change the curve either.
Still going to need Navi to change the scenery.
