There's a possibility you can upgrade your current motherboard to a Ryzen 3000 series. Check for a bios update for it. That would be the cheapest route to go. I'd suggest a 3600 if you can.
well i would like to spend as little as possible as i plan to buy a used 1080. the ryzen 3000 is a bit above my budget at the moment

not sure what deals that you have locally but i could get a r5 2600 for £110 which is the same as what i bought my r3 1300x for 2 yrs ago
since u already have a B350 u might aswell buy an r5 or r7 for the money and hassle u will save compared to going intel
but look at the 3000 series if your mobo will support it since even the 3600 beats the r7 2700

In the current market a ryzen 5 3600 outclasses the 8600k in most situations save when the high clocks of intel are favored. 6 cores in some modern games can be limiting without hyperthreading, and the cost of switching platforms isn't worth it. I wouldn't call it brand loyalty to stay AMD at this point since even someone looking for the best in their price range would be looking at AMD until they start looking at the 9700K

If you can't afford the 3000 series I don't see how a platform swap makes sense, however I wouldn't go below a 2600 and I wouldn't buy a 2600 new right now.
