I recently built a computer (see sig). I plan on keeping it for some time, I would figure 7 to 10 years. I don't need more memory currently, but the I could pick up another 32GB of matching mem on sale for $86 shipped and that seems like a fairly good deal. Needing more than 32 GB will become common in a the future, but I might not be able to find matching mem then.

System specs are in my sig
Sig space specs can and will change over time, it's best if you include them in your thread's body to help the person in the same boat as you're in now. When sig space specs change this thread and it's solution might go without a head to the end user in search of an answer.

That being said, are you currently working with a Corsair LPX dual channel ram kit? If so, good luck trying to find the same stick as yours since Corsair have been known to have a multitude of ram kits with varying PCB versions that can and will lead to you pulling every strand of hair off your head...not joking. They tend to source IC's from Micron, SK Hynix and sometimes Kingston.

Fair enough:
Ryzen 5600X / 3060Ti / 32GB DDR4 CL 16 / 512 GB m.2 SSD

OK, I guess I was looking for an excuse to spend money. I'll be fine with 32 GB for some time. I would probably be fine with 16 currently. :)

You have to consider that sometime it can be hard to get the performance you want with all the DIMM slots full. If I knew the issues I was going to have get DDR4 4000 overclock with 4xDIMMs I would have given it a second thought. The only time I have needed 64GB of RAM is when running VM's. There is just one game I own that needs 32GB of RAM.
