Hi there,

I got a seemingly great deal on 4GB of PC2-6400 OCZ Platinum Revision 2, $100 Canadian.

I'm wondering thought, should I return it? I ask this because I am buying this ram for a machine I will be building 9 months from now.. by that time will the sam ram be at the same, if not cheaper price?

Yes, return the RAM.

Prices most likely will go down. Faster RAM may be available for less $. You might need the $ for new tires or date night with the gf three months from now. Computer technology changes and RAM might not be needed due to the new super MB with integrated RAM, HD, and CPU.

You get the idea. Buying today for something 9 months from now is seldom a good buy, even if the price is great.

DDR3 will be better price and most new system if not all High end ones will be using DDR3 by then so I would say return. If DDR3 isn't main stream DDR2 will be cheaper for faster.

Well I agree and disagree, you got a great deal but..... this is the thing. I assume you got OCZ's great deal for 45 bucks for 2 matched 1GB sticks for LIMITED TIME quote unquote. I say if you can sell them sell them since in 9 months time I'm assuming DD3 will be cheaper and more mainstream and you'll find the OCZ's you just bought in a little prize at the bottom of your favorite breakfast cereal. Just abit of advice, NEVER but computer parts for something your going to build in the future..put your money away and when the future comes your going to get something better and cheaper.

silly. Never buy a part for a new rig even one month before needing it. Save your money and buy all at once. Maybe wait for a sale on a big ticket item or two and then just go for it. heck, try and buy from one company like NewEgg so you get it al together and maybe save on shipping.

It's tempting to buy "somthing" ahead of time as mney comes in, but don't. Your mind will change and then you're stuck. Or what if a piece is defective and you don't find out till 9 months later, then what? You're f***ed :)
