I typically connect to #1 just because I am OCD that way

Kind of overthinking it there. H81 haswell is not going to have a mix of USB 2.0 and 1.1 ports; and it is very clear that a USB 3.0 port cable does not fit in a usb 2.0 header.

Regardless if you looked at diagram for H81M-E33 board you would see that it only has usb 2.0 ports anyways.
