Should I consider getting the new Titan X?

Hi everyone. I have decided that when I get a job I'm going to get is a new graphics card, and it's going to be a brand new one.

One year ago I built this computer and I heard that the next gen graphics cards were coming soon so I got a 960 thinking that it's relatively cheap (graphics card wise) and would also give me a comfortable gaming experience.

I've had my eyes on the 1080 for the upgrade, but to my surprise nvidia announced a new graphics card, a Titan X. I'm thinking $1200 might be a high price so I'm thinking I shouldn't think about buying one of those. What I wanted to know is if I wanted to future proof my computer so that I won't have to buy a new graphics card for a good while would the 1080 be enough or would I be better off spending twice as much for the new Titan X?

That does sound like the best option actually. Do you have any guesses on when they would release that. I obviously don't have any idea. I thought that Nvidia would wait a year before releasing a Titan pascal card.

What resolution are you playing at? What country are you based? What is your overall budget? Could you also provide a list of your current components.

The reason I ask is that I wanted to check what card would best suit your needs and if you could save money on card and put towards better upgrades.

With the 780Ti and 980Ti they released approximately 10 months after the respective 780 & 980. If Nvidia follow the same timeline we won't see a 1080Ti until March/April next year. This does allow Nvidia to sell the 1080 at flagship prices until then and for those that can't wait they can buy a TitanX. I see little incentive from a business point of view for them to release any sooner. This is all pure guess work and speculation though.

Edit: Waiting until early next year will also coincide with releasing at the big exhibitions which is quite normal. Also AMD are not giving Nvidia any need to raise their game at the moment. My money is we won't see a 1080Ti in the shops until next year Q2
