Should I consider the GTX 970 even with the 3.5 RAM issue?

Title says it all.

I've heard that the slow 512MB isn't really a big issue now or when I play at 1080p but I've also heard that in the short future I'll be regretting my decision because games will start taking advantage of the full 4GB VRAM in video cards. This worries me because after this I won't be upgrading for a long long time and I'm hoping the 970 will keep me satisfied.

I guess what I'm asking is: Is the GTX 970 still a good choice even when I plan on keeping it for a long time or will the 3.5 VRAM give me issues?

Currently, there are only a couple games that have exceeded that 3.5 gb. I doubt we'll see more than two or three games to exceed 3.5 GB (at ultra settings) in the next 18 months. I think the 970 is a safe buy right now, but I'd be waiting to see benchmarks of the 390/390x. Those cards are sure to be future proof for 3-4 years, especially if you run them in crossfire.

Note: I'm talking about 1080p, which is what I am assuming you are gaming on.

Out of curiosity, what games are these?
