Hello all,

Background info:

Im an avid computer/console gamer. Cureently my main gaming rig is hooked up to a high quality viewsonic 19" CRT with 1600x1200 native res. Im planning on getting a PS3 and/or Xbox 360 and Im looking for a nice HDTV do partner it with.

I found this on newegg.com: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824234005

The reason why i picked this tv is because its right around my price ranger and it has both HDMI and DVI for my computer and PS3.

My questions are:

1) If i will be sitting around 4 ft away is this too close?

2) For the money Im spending, would it be beter to buy a nice computer monitor instead of a HDTV?

3) Because its at a lower resolution than my current monitor, how much will i notice it?

4) If i will be using it more for computer use than tv use, is this a bad idea?

5) Basically, how well will it fuction as a computer monitor? am i going to regret it?

1) Iffy, I ran my PC through my Westinghouse 26" and it was too big to play on. That's the nice thing about a monitor...

2) Yes

3) 1366 x 768 is poopy by computer standards.

4) Yes

5) Average and probably.

The resolution is going to kill you, and being that close to the tv/monitor is going to be a little hard to game on. Trust me, I tried it. I died because he was on that half of the screen and I was looking over on the other half... 1600x1200 is a decent difference between it and 1366x768...

I got basically this model of tv (a little older) because I wanted to hook it up to my stand alone DVD player to play movies in 720p or 1080i and I wanted the DVI connection to run it from my TV to the computer so I could throw movies up on there if I wanted to or clips or show friends web pages if we were discussing something (which did happen on occasion) and it was first and foremost a TV. I run it as a TV/DVD watcher first and a computer monitor/secondary display second. It plays movies wonderfully and I love it, but when I played games on it a few times, it just was too big for me, maybe if I sat back away from it by about 8 or 10 feet, but since I have a corded keyboard and mouse, I couldn't sit that far away and was literally 3 or 4 feet away.

If you get it to use your PS3/360 on and watch movies from your computer, then I say go for it. But if you use it as a primary monitor or computer gaming monitor, I don't think you'll like it, especially at the poor resolution comparatively. I mean, the web pages and stuff I threw up there looked spectacular, but it was at an odd resolution and I guess I'm saying is don't get your hopes up too high.
