Should I even bother overclocking my FX-6300 to 4.1?

Hey,

My 6300 is supposed to automatically boost to 4.1 i think with turbo boost. But I currently have my cpu overclocked to 4.1 atm already.

What are the advantages, if any, to overclocking to 4.1? Also, I currently have C&Q and Turbo Boost disabled. If I was to OC to something like 3.8 or 3.9 and then enable both, would that make more sense since it could turbo boost to like 4.5? plus I would be saving energy when its not being turbo boosted with C&Q? Or is that not how it works?

Thanks in advance,

Edit:

Fx 6300 (OC to 4.1)
Asrock 970 Extreme3
XFX HD 787
8gigs RAM
650 Rosewell Power Supply

Turn off turbo boost and OC it manually like you did. You can leave the power saving features on as long as it doesn't cause you any instability. Before you push any further you should also monitor your temperatures and cpu voltage.

I was doing that earlier and everything seemed fine.

Booted up GW2 and after 10 mins, BSOD. Next thing i know, i can't even start up windows again. After loading up in safe mode and running memtest, it said there was a problem with my RAM.

So i open my computer and move one of the ram to a different slot and it works fine now o.o

My question is, Was this a coincidence? Or was this most likely caused by some bad OCing on my part?

If possibly the latter, i'd really appreciate help from someone who can go in depth w/ me on how to OC my Fx 6300 on a Asrock 970 Extreme3. I have a 650w Rosewell PSU.

Edit: Also, how would I know if perhaps not enough voltage is the problem? I was setting about 1.365 or 1.375 when i was overclocked to 4.1 earlier. Does that sound about right? Would it hurt me if I overestimated the voltage and put it at around 1.39?

Hey guys, bump + update:

Playing GW2 again. Was about 5 mins in when my entire screen froze. I couldnt move my mouse either. This went on for about 10 seconds and then my screen flickered and i was back in the game.

I exited immediately because this is pretty much what happened right before i got BSOD last time. Any ideas on what it could be? I am currently NOT OC'd and everything in the BIOS is set to default.

Plz help 🙁

Thnks

Yeah i had a screwed up timing. I mistyped when entering the 9 9 9 24 and accidentally put 28...

I reset that and put it right, but now my computer refuses to start with just that 1 stick of ram 🙁 i'm guessing i'm screwed huh?

Any possible fix before I just throw away the RAM? Like retrying with different voltage or speed or soemthing?
