You might also need to initialize the new disk first before being able to format it.
- Right click your 'Start' button at the bottom left of the desktop and choose 'Disk Management'
- If the new drive shows up as 'uninitialized,' right click it and choose initialize
- After that, right click the drive again and chose quick format
After that the drive should show up in the 'My Computer' section and be ready for use.
