Should I get a 144hz 1440p Monitor or a GTX 1080?

Hello,
I'm going to purchase a new computer very soon, and I wanted to know what should I get first,
a GTX 1080 in SLI, and then a 144hz 1440p monitor?
Or the monitor with only a single Gtx 1080, and then purchase another one if the power I get from one is not enough.
The price is pretty much the same, so It's just waiting a couple of months.
Note: I already have a 1080p 144hz monitor, but I need another 1, and I want to play on 1440p 144hz, so it's only a matter of time and what should I get first.
Thanks a lot.

I have a single GTX 1080 MSI Gaming X with a 165hz 1440p monitor. In games like CSGO, Dota 2, Pay Day 2, LoL, etc. I get 300 fps. In games like Witcher 3, Thief, Rust, Skyrim, etc. I get 90 - 120 fps.

I honestly dont notice a difference when playing at 90-120 fps vs 300 fps. My monitor also has G Sync, for whatever its worth.

One 1080 with a 1440p monitor. At that resolution, you can max all settings in pretty much every game. You dont need to SLI for 2k gaming.

A GTX 1080 is more than powerful enough for 2560x1440. For the most part you will go well about 60FPS. Many games don't benefit from SLI. Some do worse, many show little or no change while a few show big gains. The average gain is a little lower than 20%.

Depending on how CPU intensive the game is. If you don't have an overclocked i7. The CPU may limit your max FPS. Given how powerful a GTX 1080 is.

If you want the best bang for your buck. Get a good OC model of a GTX 1080. Like an ASUS ROG Strix 1080, Gigabyt GTX 1080 Xtreme Gaming or MSI Gaming X 1080. All are very similar and the small differences are not enough to be noticeable. The max sustained overclock differences are not significant enough to rule out luck of the draw in GPU sample.
MSI (2088Mhz sustained gaming) http://www.hardocp.com/article/2016/09/26/msi_geforce_gtx_1080_gaming_x_8g_video_card_review/12
ASUS (2088Mhz sustained gaming) http://www.hardocp.com/article/2016/06/27/asus_rog_gtx_1080_strix_gaming_video_card_review/12
Gigabyte (2101Mhz sustained gaming) http://www.hardocp.com/article/2016/09/19/gigabyte_geforce_gtx_1080_xtreme_gaming_premium/12

A hybrid cooler may keep the chip a little cooler or keep noise levels down. I have not found enough data to support this when overclocked.

But, will it reach 144fps in most games?
Cause it's not just a 1440p 60hz monitor, it's a 1440p 144hz monitor.
