Should i get a 2nd GTX 1070 or a 1080p 144hz monitor?

Solution

1) Remember that not all games can take advantage of SLI, or do all that well with it. (for example, VR will not work with SLI or Crossfire for that matter.)

2) Your current GPU can do way better than 1080p 60Hz... It can even do better than 1080p... it can do 1440p very well.

Tom's states it as follows: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 - Best @ 1440p | Best @ SLI | Good @ VR. Until AMD gets VEGA released, the only cards that can beat it, are even more expensive: GTX-1080, GTX-1080ti, Titan X (pascal), and even then 1440p can become child's play to them.

IF you go with a second 1070, you'll want to save up and get you a good 1440p...

id go second gtx 1070, then save up for a 2560 x 1440p monitor or better with a refresh rate of 144hz monitor because if u get the monitor at 1080p chances are you will want to play the 1440p route in the near future, where imo the 1080p is still solid but i think thingss are transitioning towards higher quality graphics by default.

the gtx 1050 should do fine no need to add another card as your monitor can only achieve 60 fps if you don't understand the monitor is 60 hz which can only get 60 fps refresh rate , as of mine I had a 4k monitor and the gtx 1080 couldn't run it so I had to down grade from 4k to 144 hz 1080 p and instead of keeping the 1080 I returned it and went with 2 gtx 1070s in sli which runs perfectly fine I tried to go with other people's opinions but didn't add up so I went to the horse's mouth and went str8 to NVidia's support and the tech guy told me they're wrong and people get the misconceptions on how powerful gpus can run under pressure

1050? 1050ti? NOT on ultra settings. You're better off going with the real 1060: the GTX-1060 6GB, sticking with NVidia (otherwise a RX-480 will do practically just as good.)

THAT aside, the OP has already stated that they already have a 1070 and was thinking about getting a second one.

IF you go with a second 1070, you'll want to save up and get you a good 1440p monitor, maybe even with G-Sync.
IF you go with the 1080p 144Hz monitor, your 1070 can stretch its legs more.

Ultimately the choice is yours, no matter what we say. Personally, I'd look for a 1440p monitor around 144Hz... and the only one I see that doesn't get into 1080 - 1080ti pricing is: the Dell S2417DG for 419.99 at NewEgg. It isn't IPS, but it is 165Hz, 1ms, with G-Sync... and a little on the small side at 23.8".

Of course, this assumes you live in the States.

from my experience I had 2 gtx 970s in sli prior to going with gtx 1070s in sli I have a 1080 p 144 hz and thought it would be overkill but it wasn't concerning watchdogs 2 and mafia 3 at 1st they sucked badly even for a single card but over time they seemed to get the frame rates up over a 100 fps on the newer games , be overkill in games older than 5 yrs old
