hi all,

I have a Lenovo gaming laptop. it isn't the highest spec. I am looking for a monitor, i mainly play sports games (madden, fifa series etc) Do i need a 4k monitor? and if so what refresh rate? or would a standard monitor with 144hz be okay?

the specs of the laptop are:

Processor AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with Radeon Graphics 3.20 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (13.9 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Discrete GPU: NVIDIA GEforce RTX 3070 8GB

Thanks for the help :)

What do you consider a standard monitor?

BTW - what is model name of your laptop?
Is this your laptop? Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 16ACH6H
It has 2560x1600 screen with 165Hz.
So - monitor close to those specs would be 1440p (2560x1440) @165Hz or @144hz.
Standard monitor like standard hd.

No that isn’t the one. I can’t find a link to the one I have.

How’s this monitor ?https://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-KG272...rowse-bin:28503825031&rnid=28503743031&sr=8-5

Or should I look for a 4k one?

Standard monitor like standard hd.
Standard HD ? Like 720p (1280x720) ?
I think - you can get those only used.

VA panels tend to have a ghosting issue. This completely negates any high refresh rate benefits.

Choose IPS panel instead.

27" is a good size for 1440p, lil too big dpi for 1080p. 4k, size does matter and you'll probably find even on a 32" 4k be a too small for text and huds in games. Besides size, resolution itself be rather challenging in recent games. High end laptop graphics cards are decent just not as powerful compared to desktop counterparts. Will still be very playable though, just not really capable of matching high refresh rates if you decide to go that route. If you wish to benefit high refresh rate motion and a 27" display then 1440p is the best choice.

Avoid VA, they all suffer ghosting in fast pace scenes and look terrible when that happens. IPS is best. Oled If price wasn't a factor.
