Should I get a 960 and SLI later?

My friend is going to buy a new graphics card and he wants the 960. I'm wondering if it is a good idea to buy a 960 and SLI down the road?

960 is a mid tier card, going SLI would be better using a highend card such as a 970

SLI scaling with a 960 isn't that great, VRAM buffer is small and bandwidth is limited. You should save your pennies and buy a cheap 970, SLI scaling with the 970 will be better.
