Should I get a i5 4590 or i5 6500?

So currently I have a fx-8320 OC 4.0 ghz and I was thinking about a cpu upgrade. I was going to get the i5 6500 then I realized I would save a lot more going with a i5 4590.

For one I already have 8gb of ddr3 memory so that's already $50 saved.
Also the motherboards for haswell are considerably cheaper. (or is it just me)
I don't plan on upgrading for a while so by the time I do upgrade the LGA 1151 would probable be discontinued.
Lastly they have about the same performance with the i5 6500 barely edging out.

These are my options

as you mentioned, the i5 6500 performs slightly better and DDR4 RAM makes the system a bit more future proof as quite a few games now are taking advantage of the higher frequency RAM.

But if you are tight on budget and the $50 is important to save, go with the 4590.

From what I have noticed is the mobo prices are the same between the two, with haswell boards (especially z97 ones) can be actually more expensive due to them being a bit 'rare' so to speak. In my country as well Skylake CPUS are actually a bit cheaper than haswell predessors too (6600k is cheaper than 4690k)

Intel's Kaby lake is about to be released. Just wait for that to come out for two reasons. You likely will get a good deal on a 6500 once Kaby Lake comes out while newegg and others clear stock. Also you may want to get a new Kaby Lake CPU instead. Just an example the Kaby Lake 7500 is going to be the same price as the 6500 with 500 Mhz faster clocks. January 5th is suposed to be the hard launch date for Kaby Lake CPU's.

yes, but as black Friday approaches I feel that I would get a better sale than waiting.

You very well may, especially on Cyber Monday. I just wanted to make sure you are aware you are about 45 days from new CPU's hitting shelves. Speaking of AMD's Zen will be coming mid January as well. Just so you have the info to decide budget over newer tech.

I was aware of both before posting this, but it's a gamble. Last time I gambled on a cpu it was my Fx-8320 to say the least it was only ok. DX12 hasn't shown it's true colors yet.

I keep a close eye of tech news, but kaby lake is a bit underwhelming just a more power efficient and overclocked chip is nothing to get hyped at, but zen balancing the cpu market would call for a great change indeed. I have doubts that zen would be as powerful as suspected, but if it can come close to matching Intel I think that's enough to make a difference in price.
