Hello i am planning on getting a laptop as i am fed up with my desktop not being portable, and is getting sluggish, i saw at CES 2015 that msi is planning on selling the laptop with graphics dock, but i didnt really like the fact it has to be on a dock and i pretty sure the graphics dock has to be outputted to an external monitor which is meh, also the computer has a iris pro graphics which is just pretty stupid in my opinion 😀. i also looked at the alienware 15, which has the eGPU ,the graphics amplifier, and also has really good specs for a laptop, eg 4k touch screen, 980m etc, but when i watched a video on it they said they kept the laptop abit thick because they wanted to keep the keyboard strong and so its 1.34" / 34.0mm in which what i wanted to ask you guys, is that portable, thin enough to be compared to a computer like a macbook pro in which i was thinking about which is thin(only 1.8cm), relative good specs, but then the graphics card is a gt 750m which sounds pretty bad, but i was reading last year that some companies where thinking about making an thunderbolt external graphics card enclosure, but none appeared at CES 2015 which is weird

so what should i do, get the alienware 15 and eventually get the graphics amplifier when i feel i need that extra performance, im not a gamer, i play games occasional but think i would play games more if i had a better graphics card, my desktop one is pretty crap 😀. yh so that or should i get an macbook pro (wait for the 2015 refresh) and hopefully wait a eGPU solution , i have seen a eGPU using the sonnet Express card thing

but the enclosure itself cost £650/$1000
which is too expensive in my opinion

so yeah, what are your thoughts :)
also if this helps out abit, i use adobe programs like Photoshop and premier occasionally

also is this another solution, which is to get a ultra book and then build a good gaming pc and then do steam in house streaming if i wanted to game on the laptop , if so what would you recommend :)

ooooo just found this
http://rog.asus.com/324762014/g-series-gaming-laptops/gx500-meet-the-coolest-ultra-thin-15-6-gaming-notebook/

hopefully it gets released at computex, slim and powerful

Like Andy said, alienware is overpriced... and apple is really really... really overpriced especially for what you get. I would stay away from apple as they have very limited softwares available and if you plan on gaming a bit, than an apple would be useless.

Shop around for PC laptops, you have tons of different models and specs. Pick the one you like for your budget and you will be ok with that.

Unless you have a specific reason to buy a mac, I would stay away from that, you will regret it down the road.

i like the design of the laptop, i just think the iris pro internal graphics is a major turn off

Alienware and Apple are both over-priced for what you get. The apple won't help you game at all. There are some pretty good MSI/Asus laptops around the 1200$ price point that would be good enough for mainsteam gaming. Then if you wanted to play the latest greatest on ultra, you could build a desktop later.

Edit: You probably want to wait until broadwell, too. Lots of laptops with it should be out soon.

I personally spent 880$ on a lenova y510 a year ago, popped an ssd in and I am pretty happy with it. It has a 750m I believe, and it plays LoL and Path of exile and such. It isn't the thinnest notebook, but it can give you an idea of performance.
