Should I get a NEW CPU or just OVERCLOCK the one I have?

I'm putting together a new system and have a decision to make. I currently have a FX-4100. I was planning on upgrading to a FX-6300 after reading many positive reviews, but after reading around and comparing some benchmarks tests between the two, it seemed like the differences were kind of marginal in terms of gaming. If I decide to get the 6300, my budget for a new GPU will take a hit and the best I'll be able to afford is a Radeon HD 7870 for around $180. Alternatively, I'm considering spending a bit more on the GPU and getting a GTX 760 (around $250) and just getting a water-cooling system like the Corsair H55 and overclocking my 4100 to squeeze a bit more out of it. Then, perhaps in the next year or so (after steamroller comes out), I can upgrade my CPU. I just wante to know if you guys have any thoughts or advice concerning my predicament. Also, I'm using an ASUS M59A7 R2.0 Mobo and 8 GB of Corsair Vengeance 1600 mhz RAM, if that's relevant. Thanks, in advance!

Thanks, gentlemen! I think that's the way I'm gonna go. Can either of you recommend some good online guides for newbie over-clockers or offer any tips/advice/warnings?
