In your case I wouldn't recommend getting a Z270 mobo. The upgrade is mostly in the chipset and I am sure it will not affect overclocking performance. P.S. I also have an Asrock Z170 Extrme 7+ mobo. Intel better support 8th gen cpu's (same process and architecture, just optimization) on the Z170 chipset.
Tick tock. The Tick was 170 the Tock is 270. The 8th Gen will be a different socket.
Tick tock was not a drop in process everytime.... wow just wow.
The Tick-Tock cycle is no longer respected in the last few years (document yourself about that). We've been on 14nm for 3 generations already and 8th gen (Coffee Lake) is still on 14nm. So that is why I am unsure; it's not a certainty anymore. It is like: Die Shrink (Broadwell- same architecture as Haswell), Skylake- new architecture, Kaby Lake- Little Optimization, Coffee Lake- Larger Optimization.
