I want to know if I should get a z270 with the 7700k I already have a z170 gigabyte gaming 6 and its already updated so I could put the 7700k in it but will it be bad at overclocking it and the performance idc about the z270s extra stuff I just want to know if there will be a difference in oc and performance plus I have my mind set on the 7700k

In your case I wouldn't recommend getting a Z270 mobo. The upgrade is mostly in the chipset and I am sure it will not affect overclocking performance. P.S. I also have an Asrock Z170 Extrme 7+ mobo. Intel better support 8th gen cpu's (same process and architecture, just optimization) on the Z170 chipset.

Tick tock. The Tick was 170 the Tock is 270. The 8th Gen will be a different socket.

The Tick-Tock cycle is no longer respected in the last few years (document yourself about that). We've been on 14nm for 3 generations already and 8th gen (Coffee Lake) is still on 14nm. So that is why I am unsure; it's not a certainty anymore. It is like: Die Shrink (Broadwell- same architecture as Haswell), Skylake- new architecture, Kaby Lake- Little Optimization, Coffee Lake- Larger Optimization.

LOL ok boy. Sandy Bridge / Ivory Bridge Haswell and Kaby lake.... you are S M R T.

To the OP the 1151 with have a different socket once the 8th Gen Main stream hits. The only one that MAY last a bit is the 2066... but knowing intel that will go away too.

We'll just have to wait and see... P.S. Thanks for the compliment.

No tick tock that is a good one. It has been this way since the LGA1156 Lynnfield/Clarkdale , LGA1155 Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge, Haswell/Broadwell, LGA1151 Skylake/Kaby Lake. That is for a complete list of the tick tock. So The next is looking like Coffee Lake? Cannonlake? Still not 100% till they kick off.

I agree partially. Tick-tock means: new architecture-die shrink, cycle which was broken with Kaby Lake.Coffee Lake will be on 14nm this year and Cannonlake on 10nm next year.
