Should I get BF3 or not?

I want to get BF3; but I've a couple bad things about it. Like, that you have to install a bunch of EULA and Origin stuff, that downloads very slowly. I've basically heard that it takes forever to install; is there any truth to that?

I actually enjoyed the single player element, mostly for its good looks.

It's a good game, for the people who bought the original and now have to fork out nearly twice what the original cost for Premium and DLC content, I am very OVER it.

Anyway, back to the OP:

BF3 is great game, definitely the best FPS I've played in a long time. The visuals are great, the sound effects are amazing and the 64 player matches are a spectacle.

I have never had any download issues with Origin, and to be honest, other than the fact Id just prefer to have all my games in one place (and therefore on Steam) I dont see anything wrong with Origin at all.

I dont know where you heard about these download issues, but imo disregard them.

As for the game itself..

Pros:

- Looks fantastic, the graphics are second to none is the FPS genre
- Sound effects are very realistic, RPGs going over head make you duck for cover
- Plenty of different maps to play on, each one has its own feel and play style.
- The destruction is a really nice touch and adds another layer of depth
- Overall, the multiplayer is just brilliant.

Cons:

- No in game VOIP, so if you want to talk to your team, joining a platoon with Vent/Team speak is a must. This also effects teamwork capabilities.
- Having to have Battlelog and Origin open in the background all the time is a pain
- Snipers (unless you play as one) can get very, very irritating. imo.
- Hard to get the hang of jets this late on. Many people who fly them are now very good at it, making it hard for new people to get used to it.
- Single player is pretty much a no go. Very linear, very forgettable.
- Co-op is fun, but not great. If you have a friend to play with give it a try, otherwise stay clear.

Overall BF3 is definitely worth a shot, the multiplayer more than makes up for the singleplayer disappointment.

I agree with Gallarian.

Only thing I can add is that I would seriously consider waiting until September. Almost all servers now have some kind of addon so buying just the Standard game might mean some frustration of being kicked off servers when the next map is rotated. - They are releasing the following Premium Edition with everything included at a good price, I now feel a bit ripped off but hey its a good game overall.

http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield3/1/premium-edition

I also have COD 3 which is no where near as good as BF3 - wouldnt touch the addons/DLC.
It didnt take 3 hours for mine to install about 20mins at most, but this will depend partly on how you buy it, I bought the CD so very quick, but if you have bought it online and have a slow broadband connection then download times could be lengthy. Hail fibre for new gaming...

Yeah I agree, some of the SP missions looked great - cant remember its name but the one when you fight across a field of Russian Paratroopers and run for cover from a strafing plane stand out for me in terms of visuals. The fight in the wooded area at the start was especially pretty.

But as for story and just general feel it didnt hook me in at all. And this is is from a person who plays the SP before the MP deeming it as more important, but this time its the other way around.

Hell, maybe if the MP wasnt as good Id look more favourably on SP haha

you can do voice through battlelog, but i'm not sure how much its used.

It is good though, still playing now after 250+hours, and will carry on over the next 12 months.

I never expected much singleplayer thats a BC2 type thing, BF always been multiplayer
BF:V singleplayer was just the multiplayer maps with the worlds most mentally retarded bots. COD is the game for singleplayer (quite enjoyed the modern warfare campaigns).

buy the disk version or wait for the premium edition .dont buy bf3 stand alone off origin its way over priced . 40quid for the basic game. if you buy the disk you can get it for as little as 23quid. and then add the premium for 39.99. 63ish quid all in.
it is odd you can but the game off third parties cheaper than e.a sell it... but then again e.a's greed knows no bounds.

buy battlefield 3 for the multiplayer, it outshines every other aspect of the game by far. i suggest getting the premium edition, or the disc, but yeah, like HEXiT said, don't get it off origin.

Biggest pain you will have IMO is the common disconnections and lag you get when you get into 64 player servers, so make sure you have good internet. There are also a bunch of tweaks you can find online that will greatly help reduce your lag in game.

Ive already played more than 300 hours and dont expect to stop anytime soon. its a steep learning curve for people from other fps games, but after your first 5 hours you should be able to get the hang of it.

Battlefield 3 is excellent. It's a very fun game, and the graphics are amazing. For once, they designed a game for PC first. Even my $200 GTX 560 can run it on very high settings. I love it! :)

Yeah you can - but the people have to to be your friends on Battlelog, so its pretty much useless for use outside of a platoon
