should i get ips or tn? which monitor is better for fps gaming?

Due to their worse response rates and lower possible refresh rates, IPS panels are generally considered to be worse for competitive gameplay and used more often when color is important. For gamers who don’t play competitively and prefer breathtaking strolls in Skyrim instead of sweeping scrubs in CS:GO, an IPS panel should be a consideration for the next monitor.

IPS panels have better and more vibrant colors and have very good viewing angels. But they are more expensive and have a slower response time (4ms - 5ms). TN panels are cheaper than IPS, but their viewing angles are not as good and the picture quality is not as good as IPS. TN panels also have a faster response time of 1ms.

If it is in your budget, then I would go with IPS. The picture quality and viewing angles is noticeably superior to TN. While 5ms and below is consider good for gaming, competitive esports gamers will use a TN panel for the faster response. For me, I cant see a difference between 4ms and 1ms. So it is not really something to consider. But if you are playing in highly competitive quick twitch shooters, maybe you would see a slight edge in the faster response time.

if the the tn panel is curved will that make a difference in terms of viewing angles and colours or are they still pretty bad?

The curve is not really going to help with viewing angles. As long as you are directly in front of the screen, then the viewing angles wont be an issue. But if you are to the side, or looking down at it, then it will be an issue.

Curve monitors are to keep your peripheral vision for wider screens. Curve monitors on 24/27" screens is really just a gimmick. The point of a curve is to keep you have having to turn you head to see the edges of the screen. This is important for large screens and ultrawides where you cant see the edges of the monitor. This is why you see ultrawides with curves.
