my geforce3 ti200 is in need of a replacement but Im just not in the mood to spend $200, I bet I spent at least that much on the G3...

newegg has a retail gigabyte 9600 pro for $137, is there any card I've overlooked that might be close that price?

any new batch of cards coming out soon to drop the older ones prices?

oh and I dont need a tv out, accessories, or games I wont play

New cards coming next quarter...9800Pro might drop to about $175 after a short while. You really should look into the 9800Pro now if you have the money, you will not be disapointed.

Maxtor disgraces the six letters that make Matrox.

Even with the new cards coming out, I second the 9800 pro now as a great card for the price. I like to look at how much performance you get with each increase in price. It's easy with CPU's they might go up $10-$20 each chip, then all of a sudden the next chip up is $80 more. No brainer where the value ends to me. So as for video cards, very similar only more confusing and less clear cut. But as you work your way up the performance chart, it's at the R9800 pro that there is a HUGE price increase to step up to just a bit more performance. But if $137 is already stretching your budget, the Gigabyte 9600 Pro is as good as your going to get for the money. Sure Radeon 9600XT's or even FX5900XT might hit that price when the new cards come out, but prices always drop. And you won't be finding 9800 pros for $137 for a long long time, if ever. You might say it's always a good time to wait, but right now has been the best time to buy the current cards. ie they never been cheaper. Just look what a R9800 pro cost before Christmas compared to 3 months later. It's a bargain now.

Ugh, long winded again. my fingers hurt. :frown:

Agree, 9700Pro never drop in price to 9500 because of 9800Pro replacement. So I guess 9800Pro could drop in price, but never to midrange as probably ATI will have something there. And the performance won't match current 9800Pro.

Acording to Anandtech the middle-end will be populated by RV380, and based on specs doesn't sound by far as powerfull as 9800Pro (less Mhz, but DOUBLE pipelines and shaders). This roadmap helps a lot when taking a decision ...

Still looking for a good online retailer in Spain :frown:
