should i get the asus H110M-PLUS or the asus H110M-A?

there is a 14$ difference, but then there doesn't seem to be any real difference i can find except an
ESD guard on the plus version?

The Plus version has USB3.1 Type A ports at the rear I/O which is powered by an ASMedia controller which is 2xUSB2.0 ports on the A version. If you care about USB3.1 connectivity then you should get the Plus but then cheaper board does everything else the same minus the added USB controller+ports.
