Should I get the ryzen 1700X OR 1600 with 50$ DIFFERENCE?

So I could get The the 1700x for around 180$ or the 1600 for around 120$ with plans on upgrading it depending on the performance of Zen 2.

Is it worth the 50/60$ difference?

If it matters, thinking about getting the Gigabyte Aorus x470 for the mobo.

I have the x62 cooler.

Uses would be college work and gaming.

Thanks

What type of college work do you do? For gaming the 1600 will work fine. If you plan on doing things like photoshop video editing or blender go for the 1700x. The 1600 will do those tasks just as well if you don’t want to shell out the extra $50. With either choice of CPU go with at least 3000mhz ram because Ryzen sees some noticeable performance gains with it.
For me it'd depend on a couple of things. What would you have to give up to spend that $50 on the CPU? Or do you have enough to buy everything you need and still be able to spend more on a higher end CPU?

Secondly what is 'college work'? Is it something that can use 8 cores/16 threads?
