Should I get this card?(5600 XT)

Hey guys, I'm finally upgrading my video card for the first time(from a crappy geforce mx 400) and right now I've got my sights set on a "XFX GeForce FX 5600 XT Video Card / 128MB DDR / AGP 8X / TV Out & DVI".

Are there any other cards in this price range($100) that I should look at, or should I go with this card?

Pricewatch has R9600Pros for about $100, R9600s for well under $100, and both of those are far better cards than the FX5600XT(SE).

Even the FX5700 is a far better card.

The FX5600 is a terrible line, the FX5700 is an OK card much better choice, any XT in nVidida's world is a crappy version (SE to anyone else). So a crappy card line with the crappy version, no not a good choice. If it's for 2D there are cheaper choices out there with the same quality; if it's for gaming, then there's much more powerful/adept cards out there for the same price.

Get a Radeon 9600Pro or at least a Radeon 9600 (avoid anything 'SE' in this case).

If you must go with an nVidia, then the FX5700 is not a bad choice in that price range and the FX5600Ultra Revision 1 is selling for about $100 as well, and those would be far better than the XT. But the R9600Pro would be your best deal IMO.

I would agree, go for a 9600 Pro. Although, if you want to get a card, that will play next-gen cards, look for a card with at least 8 pipes instead of 4. The 9600 Pro is a decent card with 4 pipes, but will have trouble playing games in the future. The more pipes a card has, the faster and better it is. The new cards have 16 pipes. If I were you, I would save your money get a 9800 Pro.

Thanks guys, yeah I wasn't sure about the "XT" because I've seen some products where xt means good, and others where it's bad... Alright I'll see if I can find something in the right price range. Also I do already have enough money to buy something like a 9800, but I really don't feel like spending that much on a video card - I only want games to run smoothly, I usually turn most of the special effects/features off anyway so I think I'll be ok for a while.

I'll look into the 9600 though... Thanks!
