My pc died.
I want to build one and I have researched a lot and now I'm just confussed. What i do is video editing. I play games every once in a while but video editing and posproduction is my main purpose.
I edit short and feature films. I want to be able to have a pc that I dont have to upgrade for a while (i would upgrade the graphics card) and that is not freezing all the time because it cannot handle massive amounts of video. I use the whole adobe suite (a lot of after effects), avid and combustion.
I had decided I was going to go for an i7 (920), which means getting new mobo, ddr3, power supply and maybe cooling system. But then I read this:
http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardw [...] e-i7-920/1

and now I'm just confused.
Should I go for AMD or Intel?
c2q? c2d? i7?
ddr2 or 3?

PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE ASAP. I know people have asked questions like this 1000 times but I really need some good experience.

This is what I was thinking to get:
i7 920
OCZ XMP Ready Series 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
Antec earthwatts EA500 500W Continuous Power ATX12V v2.0 SLI Certified
ASUS P6T LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard
Domino A.L.C Advanced Liquid Cooling
nVidia geforce 8800 GS (i have it from my old pc)

Any suggestions?

i7 would probably be your best choice if you're a video editor.

Downgrade to the ASUS P6T SE and you'll save yourself ~$50. You won't be able to SLI, but I doubt you'll care.

I don't know much about liquid cooling, nor why you would be interested in it unless you plan to overclock the crap out of your system. If you are, you'll want a bigger PSU for sure. I recommend Corsair.

Let me know what you think.

edited for typo.

Thanks! I will get the i7 then. The liquid cooling, I will just forget about it. With the ASUS P6T is an open box one for 167.99 which is one of the cheapest 1366 mobos that I found. This is the link:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131359R

The issue is that it doesn't come with any of the accesories and cables.
Do you know where could I get them?
Or if you have any other option for a mobo between 160 and 180 (and with firewire port) I would be more than willing to check it.
One last question, do you think everything would fit in a regular mid size tower? or I should get a bigger one.
(Thanks again!!)

Outlander_04 and Kufan64 are correct...the Intel Core i7 920 is the best choice for video production.

But two alternative recommendations that will come close to the performance of the Intel Core i7 920 platform is the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 (Socket LGA 775) or AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition (Socket AM3). You wouldn't go wrong with these other two choices, which will save you some money on the overall build compared to the Core i7 920 build.

No real reason to go water cooling if your not planning on overclocking. If you are planning on overclocking 1x120mm rad is definitely not going to be enough. Your probably better off going with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233029. But if your not going to overclock just stick with the stock cooling.
