I already thought having been fixed on an Athlon 64 and MSI board but continued informing myself about what was happening .

And I am confused now .

The system I thought to buy was Socket 754 .
Now I read that Socket 754 CPU&MB is not the most powerfull (what is what I wanted) but Socket 940 is .
So I thought to switch to an Athlon 64 FX-53 CPU Socket 940 .
Then I read that Socket 940 had no future but 939 had or at least had it much more than Socket 940 .

OK so I switched to an Athlon 64 Socket 939 .
Unfortunately I found only 2 MB for it - Asus A8V and MSI 6702 .
Beside that the delivery delays on it are rather long (as well as for the CPU) .

Hence the question :

Are there more Socket 939 MB than the 2 I found and is Socket 939 the right way to last at least 2 years ?

The 939 is still very new. All manufaturers are onboard but the availiblity and test reports will not be availitble until mid summer. You are seeing so many back orders becuase the 939 offers non-ecc non- registered memory. Which is cheaper and faster. I would advise that you purchase the 939 64-3800 for 100 bucks less than the FX-53. Because of the ability to have a wide open fsb the larger L2 cache is not needed, and the results are the same. Then wait for for Intel to launch their new chipset, i.e droping the price of the 939 Mobos. Ohh yeah plus your get pcix (pci express).. Proven to be worth waiting for.

It seems that every time I reboot my wallet gets smaller. I append: No longer interested in speed, just the mere idea that everything should perform at its full potential.

Yes , I have also been thinking about the 64 - 3800 .
However I was not able to find it in retail whereas the FX 53 Socket 939 was available .
OK it's a bit more expensive than the 3800 but at least it's available .

So the idea is to wait a couple of month for some more MBs ?
I find it strange that Abit (my preferred company) has not yet released a 939 MB .
