Having needed to install a motherboard and reinstall the sytem software, I want to ensure that if I have severe problems in the future I can get the pc running as soon as possible.

I have made a backup of the registry and have created a safepoint.

Do I need to image/clone the drive to a DVD?

If so, is imaging or cloning the better option? (Freeware software please).

I have the Dell/Vista installation disk.

Thanks.

Actually, I am keeping a clone/image of my system HDD/SSD partition as back up. Just in case if mysystem HDD/SSD is broken and I have to buy and install a new one.
Safe points and registry back-ups are not durable enough.
I am keeping the clone in another HDD. I do not like to store things in discs.

For new mobo change, I would prefer to freshly install the OS due to the possibility of having too many mobo component driver differences, etc..
