Should I install the sims 3 on my windows 8 hp laptop?

Hi, I jus got a new laptop and I was wondering whether it can handle sims 3 or not? I have many expansion and stuff packs with it also.. And if so would you recommend it? Would it be able to run custom content from on websites like modthesims and the sims resource? I NEED to know. Also the last DESKTOP I had, I installed the sims 3 including all my expansion and stuff packs and it ran super slow in the game! It was windows 7, yet it was really old, so I am told. But I really need an answer, please.
