Should i keep waiting for custom rx 480?

Asus r9 fury 4gb tri oc ($299)
Msi r9 390x
One of the gtx 1060 custom card

Mainly, I ll be playing fifa 17 and battlefield 1 @1080p

Since prices are close i don t know what to get,
i ve 650w psu and if poasible i rather kkeep it for now. What would you do?

It's a bit of a toss up, the Fury is the most powerful AMD card you're looking at, followed by the R9 390X (currently, I expect driver optimisations to the RX 480 to change that), but the RX 480 has newer technologies like HEVC hardware decoding, new compute engines and a newer more efficient architecture. The GTX 1060 would be behind the Fury in terms of performance too and the Fury would extend that lead in DirectX 12 and Vulkan.

The Sapphire, Powercolor and ASUS custom RX 480's are out right now, just they sell out instantly.

It depends really, Battlefield 1 is going to be DirectX 12 on release and chances are the RX 480 will be faster than the 1060 in that particular game; not that the 1060 will run it like crap by any means. Any of those GPU's are a good buy to be honest.

As to custom cards, I am a bit skeptical.
I see them as adding fancy coolers mainly to support a higher selling price.
It likely makes little difference.

It is not clear to me if those tests were only for the power draw of the graphics card or the whole pc.
Or, if they include allowance for psu efficiency.
I find the realhardtech to be a very useful chart for planning.
then, there is the consideration that cheap power supplies do not deliver advertised power.

a 650W PSU should handle the card, given it's good quality.

as to reference cards I am a bit sceptical.
I see them as asking a high price for early access while having some design flaws and bad cooling.
custom cards mostly are quieter, cooler, faster and cost the same as the reference design.
especially considering the PCIe-power issues with the reference Rx480

Yeah, I used to use it as a reference too to be honest, but it is waaaay overboard. Those tests from Tom's say they were just the GPU power consumption, but they're the same as the system power consumption shown here -

In fact, almost exactly the same; Tom's is showing the total power draw.

If OP has a crap PSU that didn't deliver the advertised power, I wouldn't be recommending any GPU and neither should realhardtechx be recommending overboard PSU's just incase someone has a crap PSU.

A decent 650w PSU should handle any single GPU from the last 2 generations at least.

That PSU is decent, it has all Chinese caps but it is a pretty good PSU. I'd definitely trust it with any GPU anyway.

The Fury will still be better in any DirectX 12 or Vulkan game, it's basically 2 tiers up R9 290X, R9 390, RX 480<R9 390X<Fury, Nano.
