[SOLVED] Should i only upgrade my CPU? or other components aswell?

Hello i currently have a Nvidia GTX 1070 graphics card and i believe it is bottlenecking my pc since my cpu is a worse model. In games im getting very bad fps drops and my discord lags like crazy. For example if im playing pubg i will have huge fps drops and my discord + the rest of my pc becomes basically unusable. The same thing happends with other CPU craving games. My cpu is at a constant 100% and after a while i can hear my fan go loud. CPU temp is usually about 70-80 degrees celsius.

Specs:
GTX 1070 Graphics card
i5-4460 CPU
Acer Predator g3 605 motherboard.
24gb DDR3 ram
500Watt PSU
stock cooler.
( i put these components into a Acer Predator g3-605 PC.)
I was wondering if i should upgrade my CPU and cooler only or if i should get a new motherboard and DDR4 ram + new CPU.

in either case what CPU should i get? i'm open to any recommendations .

If you can find a used i7 for super cheap, it may be worth it. But you'd probably also want a cooler at that point. I wouldn't spend more than 50ish on a cpu that old.

A new core platform will certainly increase performance. A ryzen 3600 or higher would be an awesome system and pair well with the 1070.

What's your budget? You will also need a new psu, as a 500w is pushing it with the 1070. I'd recommend a good quality 550 or 650. 3600/board/3600mhz ddr4 and a psu.

I would say a platform upgrade is in order. Ryzen 5, 6 core, at minimum.

Looks like your upgrade path is the i7-4790 as that is the best your motherboard is likely to support...not a substantial upgrade according to userbenchmark. 15% maybe. Best pricing I saw in 2min search was 120USD. If you can find one for cheap or pull one out of a junk system, go nuts. Otherwise I would save up for a new platform. You can probably get yourself into an AMD ryzen platform for double that. Entry level sure but it's something that you could build on.

My budget i guess is around $250 to maybe 300.

i'm looking at buying a corsair vs650 PSU for $60. amd ryzen 3600 looks like a good fit for my budget. that's around $200. and a new cpu cooler for about $30 . and maybe in the future upgrade my motherboard and RAM.

Do you think FPS drops will be reduced to zero when playing games like pubg with this setup? if so i will definitely buy it!

This is a solid upgrade, imo. Add a cooler if you want, about 50 more. The stock cooler is ok, but its noisy and runs a bit warm for alot of folks.

Very likely fps drops will be none. It would be a solid setup. But in order to go ryzen, you have to upgrade the board and ram at the same time.

The vs series is corsair lowest tier psu. I wouldn't recommend it. One place you dont wont to cheap out on is the psu. Ots the most important component!

Yea, Intel, and AMD have both moved on to DDR4. Your board and ram won't work, with a Ryzen CPU. This is really the cheapest, that I could recommend.

I would probably get at least a cooler master hyper 212 for the cooler. I have a 3600 and have a stock wraith prism, which is the one that came with higher end cpus, better than the regular cooler for the 3600, and I'm considering upgrading that cooler.

You most certainly do NOT want the VS series PSU, especially with a reasonably powerful video card to support.

You will need a new MB and RAM to go to the Ryzen CPUs . . or even to go with any Intel CPUs above the 4000 series.

You can save $19 by going with @logainofhades 's selection of motherboard and RAM.

With the 1600AF CPU instead of the 2600, you're giving up, real world, less than 5% performance for a $35 savings.

Note that the PSU gets that price only after a $20 mail-in rebate. Still, for only $4 more (after rebate) than the CXM power supply, I would most strongly recommend going with the TXM power supply - it's definitely a higher quality unit.
